Monitor other tills with 52ViKING POS
This topic is about the web-based 52ViKING POS.
If it's been set up in your store, you can use 52ViKING POS to monitor other tills from the till that you're working at.
This is especially relevant if your store has self-service checkouts (SCOs), where customers may occasionally require age verification or other types of assistance.
Example: You work at the till at your store's information desk that's located right next to the store's three SCOs. If a customer at one of the SCOs requires age verification or other types of assistance, you automatically get an alert on your till's display. When you tap the alert, you can view – and work with – the display from the customer's SCO on your till's display. That way you can quickly acknowledge the age requirement or solve the customer's problem without having to leave the information desk.
The ability to monitor other tills can also be useful for keeping an eye on a staffed till that's handled by a new or inexperienced colleague, so that you can quickly help your colleague if a problem occurs.
On a till that monitors other tills, you'll typically see a row of tabs that represent the monitored tills. That's why the feature is called monitoring tabs:
To save space, some stores instead use an icon to represent the monitored tills. When you tap the icon, you can view the monitored tills in a menu:
When an event that requires assistance occurs on a monitored till (for example if a customer at an SCO requires age verification in order to buy alcohol), the monitoring tab that represents the relevant till gets highlighted in an attention-grabbing color. Examples:
Simply tap the highlighted monitoring tab to temporarily view the display of the monitored till on your till's display.
Using the temporary view of the other till's display, you can then provide the required assistance.
When you're done, you can close the temporary view of the other till's display and return to viewing your own display.
Here's an example of the monitoring tabs feature in action:
Example of monitoring tabs in action: When a customer scans an alcoholic drink at an SCO, a monitoring tab alerts the shop assistant at a staffed till that they must verify that the customer is over 18 years old.

Duration: 0.37

Language: None
In the video, note the following:
-
On the staffed till, the monitoring tab changes color when the customer scans the alcoholic drink. That's because scanning the alcoholic drink triggers an event at the SCO:
-
The shop assistant at the staffed till then taps the monitoring tab to acknowledge that they'll assist the customer:
-
The monitoring tab on the monitoring till now temporarily shows the display from the monitored till, in this case the display from the SCO.
The shop assistant has higher user rights than the customer, so even though the customer and the shop assistant are now both looking at versions of the same SCO display, the shop assistant has the rights to do things that customers can't do themselves.
On the shop assistant's version of the SCO display, the article that triggered the need for age approval is highlighted:
-
The shop assistant visually verifies that the customer is of the required age, and remotely approves the customer's age in a two-step prompt:

In some situations, countries, or regions the customer may be required to show photo ID (for example a driver's license) in order for the shop assistant to verify their age. Ask your supervisor if you're in doubt.
-
Finally, the shop assistant can close the monitoring tab and return to their own display on the monitoring till:
The result: The customer gets a smooth shopping experience with an absolute minimum of waiting time. The shop assistant is able to assist the customer remotely without physical intervention. Both customer and store effortlessly live up to legal requirements.
The exact colors used on monitoring tabs may vary from store to store, and there are typically different colors for different phases (assistance required, assistance in progress, etc.). Ask your supervisor if you're in doubt.
