Put a till in training mode

This topic is primarily for administrators and other people who manage a Fiftytwo solution

You may need to have particular user rights in order to use this functionality. Ask your Fiftytwo administrator if you're in doubt.

When you onboard new shop assistants who must learn how to work at a till, you can put one or more of your tills in training mode, so that the new shop assistants can practice before they begin to serve real customers. Training mode is also useful if you need to test new setups.

When a till is in training mode:

  • Transactions on the till aren't registered as real ones, so they're not sent to your organization's finance system

  • Receipts will prominently display the wording TRAINING, so that they can't be confused with real receipts

  • The till will have this symbol on its display to indicate that it's in training mode:

To put a till in training mode:

  1. Open 52ViKING Store Management in a browser, connect to the IP address or hostname of the required 52ViKING store controller, and log in.

  2. Navigate to till configuration:

    1. Expand the menu in the left part of the page

    2. Expand Store maintenance

    3. Select Terminal configuration

  3. Find the required till:

    • In the filters section at the top of the Terminal configuration page, search for the till's number or name.

  4. In the row that represents the required till, click the till number.

  5. On the General tab, in the Settings section, in the Training field, select 9 - Always.

Always doesn't mean that the till will remain in training mode forever. It simply means that while the till is in training mode, it can only be used for training.

You can also select one of the settings that let the till be used for training if a particular key is set. However, it's often safer to select the Always option because then there's no doubt about whether the till is in training mode or not.

If you do select one of the settings that let the till be used for training if a particular key is set, it means that the required key must be set when the trainee logs in to the till and when the trainee logs out of the till. The key doesn't need to be set in the required position while the trainee works at the till because that could potentially affect the permissions of the trainee as well as the permissions of the till.

  6. Click at the top of the page to save.

This will save your changes on the store controller, but it will not apply the changes on the till.

  7. To apply your changes on the till, click Update master data in the top right corner or the page.

This will send all master data updates, that are available on the store controller and relevant to the till in question, to the till. This may include other master data than you've defined in 52ViKING Store Management's till configuration. It may, for example, also include updates to the till's user interface, text sections, and article list (also known as a PLU table). Ask your Fiftytwo consultant if you're in doubt.

Remember to put the till back in normal mode after training or testing has been completed. If you don't, you risk that real sales on the till aren't registered. If sales aren't registered, it could seriously affect your store's sales figures as well as your ability to live up to fiscalization requirements about mandatory reporting of transactions to the authorities.
Perform the following steps to put the till back in normal mode.
