52ViKING payment methods
When you use a till's Total key, 52ViKING (previously also known as 52RETAIL) calculates a subtotal and shows it on both the shop assistant and customer displays. The subtotal isn't printed on the receipt, so if you make additional sales, the transaction will simply continue until you use the Total key again. The receipt total is only printed on the receipt once you have registered payment.
If required, you can show a running subtotal on the displays during the payment process.
The following are examples. 52ViKING supports a very wide range of payment methods. Contact Fiftytwo to learn more if your preferred payment method isn't listed in the examples.
You can use 52ViKING with all the usual payment methods, for example:
-
Cash in local currency and foreign currencies
-
Credit cards and Dankort via integration to the payment terminal
-
Other Nets-accepted cards via the Dankort terminal
-
Own cards via the Dankort terminal (which is used as a card reader)
-
Manual Dankort and offline Dankort
-
Credit cards via magnetic card reader
-
Credit and account cards authorized externally by the credit card company
-
Credit cards and Dankort via integration to virtual payment terminal on Android devices with 52ViKING MPOS
-
Account (debit)
-
Gift cards
-
Bottle deposit slips created manually
-
Bottle deposit slips from TOMRA reverse vending machines
-
Coupons and discount vouchers
-
MobilePay
52ViKING allows split payments, so customers can use several different payment methods per receipt. All payment methods can thus be partial payments in accordance with the rules set out for this.
52ViKING offers a long list of parameters (also knows as rules) for each payment method. You can use those parameters to define how to process a specific payment method, for example:
-
Whether the received amount should be entered, or whether the receipt total (balance) should automatically be viewed as the received amount.
-
Whether supplementary information should be entered, for example gift card numbers for gift cards, or bank sort codes if you take cheques.
-
Ability to define a minimum and maximum received amount as well as maximum amount of change given.
-
Ability to determine whether the cash drawer should be opened
-
Whether or not to round up currency subunits, such as cents, pence, grosz, øre, etc. If you round up, you must define the smallest accepted value for the payment method, for example 25 øre if you use the Danish currency.
-
For bottle deposit redemption slips you can specify that the receipt should not automatically be completed if the last payment is a bottle deposit redemption slip. That's because it could otherwise give customers with several bottle deposit slips the opportunity to continue on the same receipt, even though a bottle deposit slip has actually been paid out.
Rules for processing credit card payments that are authorized via external procedures (such as payment terminals and other link-ups) are managed according to the rules set out by the credit card companies.
Fiftytwo can deliver 52ViKING with, for example, Ingenico Lane/3000 or Verifone P400 payment card terminals, and other payment card terminals can be supported on individual markets.
52ViKING includes facilities for directly linking up a number of other authorization companies in Europe and Asia for the authorization of credit and bank cards. This is done partly through other types of payment terminals, or alternatively via the till's built-in card reader, after which the link to the credit company is handled through the 52ViKING store controller.
If you're a Danish 52ViKING customer, and you receive other Nets-accepted cards than Dankort in your Dankort terminals, you can break down the amounts in the accounting figures by card type as well as by terminal.
52ViKING can process payment cards in offline mode if you set up the payment cards in a definitions table that you can then use for approval.
When you then read a card or enter a card number, 52ViKING performs a validation based on the defined rules. You can also look up cards in a negative list of accounts that should be blocked.
52ViKING logs such transactions, which you can then use to extract a settlement with the relevant credit card company.
To use the offline method, you must have a redemption arrangement with the relevant credit card companies in order for your store or retail chain to have the required authorization. The credit card companies will provide the requirements for receipt content.
The standard currency in 52ViKING is the valid currency in the country where 52ViKING is used.
If you accept a foreign currency, 52ViKING can automatically perform a conversion of the receipt total (balance) into the foreign currency in question. You can also define if change should be given in the last registered currency or in your local currency.
Stores and retail chains have successfully used 52ViKING with the euro currency in countries like Germany since 2002.
However, euro is currently processed as a foreign currency in some European countries, such as Denmark, Sweden, and Norway.
To display amounts in local currency and euro respectively on your receipts, customer displays, operator displays, and shelf edges, you can do the following via parameter controls:
-
The system runs in local non-euro currency (for example in Denmark): You can display the total either in local currency or in local currency plus euro
-
The total can be printed on the receipt at product line level in both the local currency and euro
-
Shelf-edge labels can be displayed in both local currency and euro
If a country switches to euro, an automatic calculation of archived amount data (primarily statistics and account data) from national currency to euro can be undertaken, but in such instances additional assistance regarding the implementation of the conversion of the individual installation's amount data must be provided and arranged individually.
Bottle deposit redemption slips from reverse vending machines (RVMs) can be used for payment just like other payment methods.
52ViKING can process bottle deposit redemption slips in an integrated solution, for example with TOMRA reverse vending machines.
The integration between 52ViKING and the TOMRA reverse vending machine offers complete control and protection for bottle deposit redemption. For example:
-
A bottle deposit slip can't be redeemed more than once
-
The amount will always be correct because its doesn't need to be entered manually
-
You have a constant overview over issued, redeemed, and non-redeemed slips
When the customer returns their bottles through a TOMRA reverse vending machine, they receive a redemption slip that has the redeemable amount stated clearly on it. The slip also contains a barcode with a unique number that consists of store number and serial number.
At the same time as the reverse vending machine prints the redemption slip, a digital copy of the slip, with the number and amount, is transferred to the 52ViKING server, where it's stored and given the status Issued bottle deposit slip.
When the customer hands their redemption slip to the till, the slip is scanned, and 52ViKING brings up the stored digital copy of the slip and checks that it hasn't already been redeemed. If the redemption slip hasn't already been redeemed, it's amount is used, and the status of the slip in question changes to Redeemed bottle deposit slip.
If a customer attempts to redeem a bottle deposit slip that isn't in the 52ViKING system, or has the status Redeemed bottle deposit slip, you can override the verification if a supervisor uses the key function.
On the 52ViKING server you can always:
-
View the digital log from the TOMRA reverse vending machine
-
View the status of the individual bottle deposit redemption slips
-
Get an overview of slips within a time interval of your choice
-
Query slips with exceptions, that is typically:
-
Slips that have been redeemed several times
-
Slips that couldn't be found on the 52ViKING server, so that they were instead accepted using the supervisor key function
-
Slips that haven't been redeemed for a long period of time
-
If there's a communication failure with the TOMRA reverse vending machine, the solution covers procedures and options for manual processing.
You don't need to have the latest TOMRA reverse vending machine models to use the solution because TOMRA can upgrade many of the older models so that you can use them too. We recommend, however, that you contact Fiftytwo so that we can help you check if you can use your particular TOMRA reverse vending machine.
