Manage article groups in 52ViKING Store Management
This topic is primarily for administrators and other people who manage a Fiftytwo solution
You may need to have particular user rights in order to use this functionality. Ask your Fiftytwo administrator if you're in doubt.
You can use article groups for many purposes, such as article group-based discounts, article group-based statistics, or article group-based thresholds (for example how many articles from an article group that shop assistants can sell with a till's multiply (×) function).
You can manage article groups for a single store as well as for multiple stores at the same time in 52ViKING Store Management. Here, we primarily describe 52ViKING Store Management for single-store management, but if you've set up synchronization between your chain's enterprise controller and your stores' store controllers, you can use 52ViKING Store Management for chain-wide store management as well.
-
Open 52ViKING Store Management in a browser, connect to the IP address or hostname of the required 52ViKING store controller (for single store management) or enterprise server (for multistore management), and log in.
-
Navigate to article groups:
-
Expand the menu in the left part of the page
-
Expand Article maintenance
-
Select Article groups
-
-
In the top right corner of the Article groups page, click .
-
In the Article group information section, specify the following:
-
Article group no.: The article group number that will tie the articles in the group together. Article group no. is a key field that you can't edit later.
If your organization uses a special numbering scheme for article groups, it's important that you follow that scheme. Ask your Fiftytwo administrator if you're in doubt.
-
Article group: A name that describes what the article group is used for.

-
-
In the Sales section, specify the following:
-
Department number: The number of the department that the article group will belong in.
A department can be, for example candy, dairy, or fruit. The article group will then be part of the department, so the article group can cover, for example, caramels in the candy department, milk in the dairy department, or apples in the fruit department.
-
Min. amount and Max amount: The smallest and largest allowed sales amounts for the article group. If you don't want an upper limit, specify 0 in the Max amount field.
-
Max payout amount: The maximum allowed amount that can be paid out via open price articles within the article group.
-
Block easy markdown: With easy markdown, you can mark down any articles in the article group regardless of the articles' previous prices, which may vary from article to article. With easy markdown, if you put new special price labels on the marked-down articles, you'd typically place the special price labels on top of the articles' barcodes to avoid confusion. This setting blocks the ability to use easy markdown.
-
Block normal markdown: With normal markdown, you can mark down articles in the article group in a way that lets your organization run statistics, history, etc. on individual units of marked-down articles. With normal markdown, if you put new special price labels on the marked-down articles, you'd typically place the special price labels next to the articles' barcodes, so that the barcodes are still visible and can be used for comparison, counting of sold number of units of individual articles, etc. This setting blocks the ability to use normal markdown.
-
Exp. gross margin: Expected gross margin percentage.
-
Group discount percent: Discount percentage that'll apply to all articles in the article group, unless you specify otherwise for individual articles that belong to the article group.
-
-
In the Finance accounts section, select relevant finance accounts for audit journals. Ask your organization's finance department if you're in doubt about which accounts to use.
-
In the Details section, specify the following:
-
VAT code: Select required VAT rate.
-
Do not count t/o: Select if the article group should not be part of net turnover calculations.
-
Statistics code: Optional field for statistical use. For example, if you want to deliver data about the article group to SPSS, a statistics platform from IBM, you can include a reference to an SPSS accumulator in this field.
-
Fruit and vegetables: Select if the article group concerns fruit and vegetables so that it requires special treatment in connection with shelf labels.
-
Combination code: Optionally, specify an aggregate discount code that's used to combine articles that have the same price, discount quantity, and discount amount. That way, articles that have the same combination discount code via the article group, and where the price, discount quantity, and discount amount is also equal, will automatically get the defined aggregate discount.
-
Automatic import: If your organization is a chain that uses a 52ViKING enterprise controller with synchronization to store controllers, this setting enables the ability to automatically import changes to the article group on store controllers without the need to approve pushed changes from the enterprise controller.
-
Sort v/picking: Optional sorting key for picking lists. If you don't specify a sorting key, 52ViKING will place the article group after article groups with sorting keys when sorting any picking lists.
-
Ca-discount group: Specify if the article group should be part of a discount group.
-
Print group: Print groups define how receipts are sorted (for example into logical sections like Beverages, Frozen food, etc.). Select a print group if it's relevant for the article group.
-
Changes group: Used in connection with editing of suggested prices from suppliers. You can associate each article group with a changes group to be able to make such edits article group-wise.
