52ViKING discount types
52ViKING (previously also known as 52RETAIL) works with:
-
Manual discounts that are granted by the shop assistant.
-
Automatic discounts that are allocated by the system. You can enable/disable automatic discounts at a predefined date and time.
You can define individual receipt texts for a discount. If you don't, 52ViKING uses the text DISCOUNT.
Examples of discount types that you can set up in 52ViKING:
You can set up a discount quantity per article together with a discount amount. The discount amount is then triggered when a customer buys the defined quantity of the article.
The discount is transferred to the article that the discount is calculated on, but you can define whether the discount should:
-
Only be triggered each time a multiple of the discount-triggering quantity is registered
- or -
-
Continue proportionately for further quantities of the article once the discount-triggering quantity has been reached once
Set it up in 52ViKING Store Management: See Discount in the topic Manage articles in 52ViKING Store Management.
You can set up a discount amount per article with a total price for that amount.
With discount families you can apply a discount across article numbers by tying them together using a family number.
A discount family is essentially a discount amount or a total price for x number of articles within the family. There's no limit to the number of articles that can be in the same family, but one article can only belong in one family. Articles in the same family don't need to have the same sales price.
The discount is transferred to the articles that the discount is calculated on, but you can define whether the discount should:
-
Only be triggered each time a multiple of the discount-triggering quantity is registered
- or -
-
Continue proportionately for further quantities of the articles once the discount-triggering quantity has been reached once
Specify which articles should belong in a discount family: You specify discount family membership as part of the master data of the required articles. See Manage articles in 52ViKING Store Management.
Use 52ViKING Store Management to specify campaign discounts on discount families: See Manage campaigns in 52ViKING Store Management.
Use 52ViKING Web POS UI to specify campaign discounts on discount families: In some organizations you can manage campaigns directly in 52ViKING Web POS UI. Ask your Fiftytwo administrator if you're in doubt. See Manage campaigns in 52ViKING Web POS UI.
You can set up discount ladders (also known as discount chains) for individual articles and discount families, with prices based on purchases of different amounts.
Example: Two for EUR 20, three for EUR 29, five for EUR 40.
The discount is transferred to the articles that the discount is calculated on, but you can define whether the discount should:
-
Only be triggered each time a defined discount ladder quantity is reached
- or -
-
Be maintained for further quantities of the articles based on the discount-triggering quantity that is reached
You can define by the individual article group whether a percentage discount should be given or not.
For individual articles in the article group, you can also define whether the article should:
-
Follow the article group's percentage discount
-
Trigger a special percentage discount
-
Not trigger any discount at all
The discount is distributed back to the articles that the discount is calculated on.
Specify which articles should belong in an article group: You specify article group membership as part of the master data of the required articles. See Manage articles in 52ViKING Store Management.
To trigger a staff discount, you begin by registering the staff number. The staff number must have been set up on the customer index, with a code that indicates that it covers a member of staff rather than an external customer. Alternatively, you can use staff cards (which can be identical to local account cards, but with a separate number series).
You select the discount itself on the article. You can define four different staff discount rates (as well as no discount), which can all be attached to the individual article.
You can select between three ways of processing the staff discount:
-
The discount is deducted on the till receipt, and the member of staff pays the net price. The discount is audited in a special collected financial account.
-
The discount is calculated and printed at the bottom of the till receipt, but not deducted. One discount transaction is created per discount rate, and that transaction is then sent to the central system where the discount is triggered, for example via payroll.
-
The discount is summarized in a periodical print-out of staff discount specifications for subsequent processing in other systems.
Use 52ViKING Store Management to select staff discount rate on an article: See Discount in the topic Manage articles in 52ViKING Store Management.
52ViKING can process customer loyalty functions in the form of customer clubs to which you can attach special discount or bonus schemes.
That way it's possible to attach articles to customer clubs, so that, for example, a discount is only triggered if the customer is a member of the club.
Similarly, you can gather together individual customers' purchases as the basis for a possible later bonuses.
Use 52ViKING Store Management to specify club membership required to get discount on an article: See Discount in the topic Manage articles in 52ViKING Store Management.
Use 52ViKING Store Management to specify if buying an article will earn customers points that can later be redeemed for a discount, reward, or similar: See Advanced in the topic Manage articles in 52ViKING Store Management.
You can register discounts on journal lines that represent articles as a discounted figure or percentage discount (xx.xx%).
The discount can't exceed the article's sales price.
You can manage the ability to offer this type of discount by shop assistant category.
The discount is distributed back to the articles where the discount is registered.
Grant a manual discount in 52ViKING Web POS UI: See Grant a manual discount in the topic Handle sales in 52ViKING Web POS UI.
You can give total discounts as a figure or percentage discount (xx.xx%).
The discount can't exceed the total on the till receipt.
You can manage the ability to offer this type of discount by shop assistant category.
These discounts are not distributed back to the articles registered on the till receipt. Instead, they're audited in a separate financial account.
Grant a manual discount in 52ViKING Web POS UI: See Grant a manual discount in the topic Handle sales in 52ViKING Web POS UI.
A discount basket is a particular combination of articles that your store runs a campaign on, or sells for a total favorable price, or sells at a discount.
Articles in the discount basket don't need to be packaged together. They can be placed separately in the store, typically at their usual locations, and they can be scanned in random order at the till.
A discount basket can consist of:
-
Specific articles (EAN numbers),
-
Articles in the same discount family
-
Article groups
-
Discount basket groups (that is articles that the customer can freely choose between in the discount basket)
An article can appear in several discount baskets. If the customer buys a combination of articles, where one article is included in several discount baskets, 52ViKING will automatically choose the discount basket that gives the customer the best deal.
When the shop assistant presses the till's Total key, 52ViKING performs a check and calculation of the discount basket.
When 52ViKING calculates the basket discount/price, any other types of discounts that are already triggered are offset on the receipt. They could, for example, be article group discounts, multibuy discounts, or family discounts that consist of several articles with the same or different prices.
You can freely define to what extent the triggered basket discount should be transferred proportionally back to the articles in relation to the individual article's share of the total price of the discount basket.
You can implement he discount basket module in the 52ViKING cash register program from Release 3.52 with corresponding till program (min. version 3528).
Discount baskets will increase the load on your tills, so the tills must have sufficiently powerful processors. The total number of discount baskets that are active in 52ViKING in your store, combined with the actual level of transactions where the discount appears, will significantly influence the speed and performance of the tills. We recommended that you contact Fiftytwo for an assessment of your tills' performance versus the number of discount baskets that you plan to use.
You can define parameters for the calculation of discount stamps. You can also define whether you want to give discount stamps to all customers or only to club members.
You can select a group of articles and give articles in that group a total discount, which is divided up between all the articles.
For example, you can select three lines that represent articles in the journal and:
-
Sell them for a total price for all three (the discount is calculated automatically)
-
Give a quantity or percentage discount on all the lines
-
Pay X percent of the cheapest
You can define a purchase amount that'll trigger a gift if the customer's purchase exceeds the amount.
For example, you can offer the customer a free crate of oranges if the customer buys for more than EUR 50 in a single purchase.
All discount data, including discount types and indications of the individual discounted articles, can appear in reports. Discount data can also be extracted from the log for potential import into other systems.
Depending on local legislation, certain articles (for example prescription or non-prescription drugs, bus passes, tobacco, alcohol, or similar) may not be sold at discounted rates.
