Minimum configuration for SCO (self-service checkout) tills

This topic is primarily for administrators and other people who manage a Fiftytwo solution

You may need to have particular user rights in order to use this functionality. Ask your Fiftytwo administrator if you're in doubt.

The following till configuration settings are as a minimum required for a self-service checkout (SCO):

  1. Open 52ViKING Store Management in a browser, connect to the IP address or hostname of the required 52ViKING store controller, and log in.

  2. Navigate to till configuration:

    1. Expand the menu in the left part of the page

    2. Expand Store maintenance

    3. Select Terminal configuration

  3. Find the required till:

    • In the filters section at the top of the Terminal configuration page, search for the till's number or name.

  4. In the row that represents the required till, click the till number.

  5. Make sure that the General tab is selected.

  6. In the Terminal section's Cashier field, enter the number of the fixed operator that the SCO till should use.

  7. In the Settings section's Sales no. field, select 0 - None. This will ensure that no special conditions, for example that a shop assistant must swipe or scan their ID card, are required to begin a sale at the SCO till.

  8. Select the Advanced tab.

  9. In the Till type section's Self-scanning field, select 1 - ViKING self-checkout till.

  10. Click at the top of the page to save.

Other Terminal configuration settings as well as peripheral till device settings may also be relevant for your SCO tills, depending on the functionality that you require. Ask your Fiftytwo consultant if you're in doubt.

Look, feel, and customer functionality

You define customer-facing functionality as well as the look and feel and the required languages of your SCO tills in 52ViKING POS Designer.

It has a template for SCOs that you or your Fiftytwo consultant can customize to suit your organization's needs.

If you want to know what it feels like for customers to use an SCO, and for shop assistants who may occasionally need to help out customers at the SCO, see 52ViKING Web POS UI self-service checkouts (SCOs).

Random checks

If you want to perform random checks of customers' purchases to verify that they've scanned or selected all their articles, use the Customer survey feature. You can't currently set up the customer survey feature in 52ViKING Store Management, but you or your Fiftytwo consultant can do it in the VB021 mask in 52ViKING Client).

The customer survey feature is typically used for postcode surveys, but because you can configure its frequency to be random, it's also ideal for random checks of customers' purchases.

If you use the customer survey feature for random checks of customers' purchases, you can't also use it for asking for customers' postcodes or other survey questions.
