Manage audio in 52ViKING POS Designer
Audio on certain user actions, for example when users tap certain buttons, can greatly enhance the POS experience. This is especially true for self-service checkouts (SCOs) where customers don't necessarily have much experience of using the POS.
Audio can, for example, be a simple click sound that provides subtle feedback when a user taps a button, or it can be more advanced spoken help messages that guide users in their preferred language.
In 52ViKING POS Designer you can add audio resources to the following actionable components:

The GridMenu component itself can't have audio, but each cell in a grid menu can have audio.

A parent Menu item can't have audio, but any children Menu items under the parent Menu item can have audio.

On each component, you can furthermore specify which events, for example click events, scroll events, etc. should trigger the audio.
Add audio resources
You can use audio files of the following formats:

.mp3
-
.wav
-
.ogg
-
.aac
-
.m4a
To add a new audio file to a diagram, open the required diagram, and attach the audio file to the diagram's Audio resource group. The audio file then becomes selectable when you set up audio on a component.

Audio in different languages
Many retail organizations operate in multilanguage environments, where they let users select their preferred language on POSs. In such cases, it's important that relevant audio files are also available in the languages that your organization supports on your POSs. That way you can provide a consistent user experience.

Simple audio files, such as click sounds, etc. typically don't require localization. That means that they don't require separate versions for individual languages, although you can choose to occasionally use different language versions of such files for cultural reasons.

Audio files that contain spoken word messages must typically be available in the languages that you offer on your POSs. Many organizations use spoken word audio files on their self-service checkouts, where spoken word messages can help guide users, especially visually impaired users.
When you set up audio on a component, you'll be able to select different audio files for each language if required.
Set up audio on a component
You can set up audio on a component in two ways:

Globally: When you set up audio globally for a component, the audio will apply for that component wherever it's used on the diagram.
This is useful if, for example, you always want a button to trigger a particular audio file when users tap that button, wherever that button appears on the POS display, now as well as if you later add a new instance of the button to the diagram.

Locally: When you set up audio locally on a component, it only applies for that particular instance of the component.
This is useful if, for example, you only want a particular instance of a button to trigger a particular audio file when users tap that specific button.
For each component, you can furthermore select different audio files for different languages if required. The ability to select different audio files for different languages applies for both global and local setups.
Set up audio globally on a component
Before you begin, make sure that you've added the required audio files to the diagram (see Add audio resources in the previous) so that you can select them in the following.

In the bottom part of the dark bar in the right side of POS Designer, click the Audio icon:

In the Add / edit audio dialog that opens, click

In the Control field, select the component that you want to set up global audio on.

In the User activity events field, select the event(s) that should trigger the audio.

In the Select audio for each language section, click each required language and select the audio file to use for the language in question.

Below the language selection section, select the required volume level by dragging the slider to the required level (0 (min.) - 100 (max.)).
The volume level is tied to the selected events on the selected component, so if you've selected different audio files for different languages on the component, the volume level will apply for all of the languages.

If you want to set up global audio on other components, or different events on the same component, click
again, and repeat steps 3-6 until you're done.If you want to add a setup that's near-identical to one that you've already set up, you can click
to copy an existing setup and modify it. -
When you're ready, click Save.
Set up audio locally on a component
Before you begin, make sure that you've added the required audio files to the diagram (see Add audio resources in the previous) so that you can select them in the following.

On the required layout, select the component that you want to set up local audio on.

In the Properties section in the right side of POS Designer, expand the component's Basic properties.

In the right side of the Audio field, click

In the Add / edit audio dialog that opens, click

In the Control field, make sure that the component that you want to set up global audio on is selected. If not, select it.

In the User activity events field, select the event(s) that should trigger the audio.

In the Select audio for each language section, click each required language and select the audio file to use for the language in question.

Below the language selection section, select the required volume level by dragging the slider to the required level (0 (min.) - 100 (max.)).

Global and local audio on the same component
What happens if you set up audio globally on a component, and you also set up audio locally on an instance of the same component?
If you set up audio globally on a component, and you also set up audio locally on a particular instance of the same component, and both setups are available in the same language, the local setup will “win” on the component with local setup, whereas the global setup will apply on all other instances of the component. Set up ability to adjust audio volume in 52ViKING POS
In POS Designer you select a component's audio volume level when you set up the component, but users of 52ViKING POS typically also need to be able to adjust the volume of audio.
In POS Designer there's a separate component for that purpose:

On the required diagram, open the layout on which you want POS users to be able to adjust audio volume.

In the right side of POS Designer, select Toolbox, and expand the Advanced section.

From the Advanced section, drag the AudioVolume component to the required position on the layout.

Adjust the component's properties to meet your organization's needs:

Background color
-
Slider color: Color of the slider handle as well as the area of the slider that has been selected by dragging the handle.

Slider step: Increments with which the slider handle will move when users drag it. Example: If set to 10, the slider handle will move in increments of ten (for example 0, 10, 20, etc.).

Show thumb label: Displays a small indicator label above the slider that informs users about the slider handle's exact position (example: 70) when they drag the slider.

Show plus/minus buttons: Displays plus and minus buttons that users can tap to adjust the volume as an alternative to dragging the slider. The plus/minus buttons will use the increments defined by the Slider step setting.

When you're ready, click
in the top bar to save your changes. -
Repeat if you want the volume adjustment component to be available on other of the diagram's layouts.
When you publish the package to relevant POSs, layouts on which you've added the volume adjustment component will display an audio
icon. When POS users tap that icon, the volume adjustment slider will appear.
